Ticket to Paradise

 Lights, Camera, Hamilton Island!

Have you noticed any familiar looking locations on the big screen lately?

Many of Hamilton Island’s most loved settings were used as filming locations in the recently released ‘Ticket to Paradise’.

Directed by Ol Parker (Mama Mia! Here We Go Again), this romantic comedy tells the story of divorced parents (played by George Clooney and Julia Roberts) who travel to Bali on a shared mission to stop their daughter from marrying and making the same mistake that they once did.

Despite the plot being set in Bali, Ticket to Paradise was filmed on location in Queensland and the production called Hamilton Island home for four weeks in November of 2021, with the cast and crew using the stunning visuals of Catseye Beach, One Tree Hill, qualia, the Bougainvillaea Pool and the Great Barrier Reef Airport to portray the Balinese setting.

Interesting fact: Over 160 individual vehicles, including cars, trucks, tuk-tuks and scooters were transported by barge to and from Hamilton Island and filming locations on other islands over the four week shooting schedule.

If you are inspired to create your own ticket to paradise, explore the many incredible experiences possible on our Island Paradise See & Do on Hamilton Island and the surrounding Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef and book your Hamilton Island Accommodation to suit your character right here on the official Hamilton Island Website.
If dialling up the luxury is more your thing, experience the best in Australian luxury and book an exclusive couples retreat at qualia resort or Beach Club. If you would prefer to bring the whole family, why not stay in a self-contained Holiday Home, like Julia and George, or choose one of the other family friendly hotels on Hamilton Island.
And of course, if you are looking to tie the knot in your own slice of paradise, Hamilton Island is Australia’s favourite wedding destination, with 9 ceremony locations to choose from, including neighbouring Whitehaven beach.
